SUMMARY :
FTZ #22 comprises 38 foreign trade zones spread throughout the state of Illinois. The FTZ is governed by the Illinois International Port District which issues all licences as the zone’s grantee.
The FTZ helps the companies within it facilitate and expedite international trade as well as offering a number of special customs procedures that allow businesses to delay, defer or even eliminate duty payments.
The Illinois International Port District features many lakeside developments for office and industrial use. One of the site’s major developments, the Iroquois Landing Lakefront Terminus, on the corner of Lake Michigan, is home to over 3,000 linear feet of ship and barge berthing space, three transit sheds – ranging between 30,000 and 100,000 square feet – all benefiting from direct truck and rail access.
Another large development is the Senator Dan Dougherty Harbor, at the junction point of the Grand Calumet and Little Calumet Rivers. The harbour consists of four transit sheds totalling over 400,000 square feet adjacent to approximately 3,000 linear feet of ship and barge berthing space. It is also home to two of the largest grain/storage facilities in Illinois with a capacity of approximately 14 million bushels and one of the largest tank storage farms in Illinois with a capacity of approximately 800,000 liquid barrels.
