SUMMARY :
Shannon Free Zone was established in 1959 as the world’s first free trade zone. The 600-acre site comprises over 7 million square ft. of developments including offices and site for manufacture and distribution. The free zone is home to over 100 companies from a range of sectors – including businesses such Lufthansa, Intel and Zimmer.
Shannon Free Zone generates some €3 billion in trade every year – of which 90% is exports. As well as catering for manufacture and distribution businesses, the site has also seen huge growth in internationally traded services from finance and insurance to software and telecoms. Many of the businesses registered within Shannon Free Zone use the site to serve markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim. Shannon Free Zone is Ireland’s largest cluster of North American investment.
The free zone adjoins Shannon International Airport with direct links to its runways. Also nearby are Smithstown Industrial Park and Western Business Park – both vibrant business hubs, home to over 30 indigenous manufacturing and service companies that serve Shannon Free Zone along with national and international customers. Shannon Free Zone is also just two and a half hours by road to the Irish capital, Dublin.
